A new experiment
A new experiment
I came across a new site recently that got me tinkering with the idea of switching around my blogging platform. The site that has been tempting to to cheat against my beloved iWeb is the relatively new tumblelogging site, Tumblr -- that's right, tumblelogging.
After following a few tumblelogs, or tlogs, I definitely knew this was something I would be interested in doing. So what the heck is a tumblelog, you ask? Well, up until just recently, I had never heard of it either. Basically it's a variation of a blog which is made up of short-form mixed-media posts, rather than the longer editorial posts that make up most standard blogs. It's been dubbed "a stream of consciousness", and described as "representing the thoughts of a tumblelogger as they happen." (Britian's Daily Telegraph, "Tumblelogging: don't think about it, just write.") With a lot of my blog posts falling into this category, I thought it would be great to start up a site that would facilitate this type of blogging.
As for Tumblr, it really makes tumblelogging easy -- which is what attracted to me it in the first place (especially when compared to the work I have to do to get a full post up on firerobin). I am mostly psyched because, with the full internet I have with my iPhone, I can make posts on my phone anywhere at anytime. I can even post photos mobile. If you have a camera smart phone, you just take a picture and e-mail the photo to a specific Tumblr e-mail address designated to your account, then type the caption you want to appear with the photo in the subject line of the e-mail. Just like that, you've posted a photo to your site!
The new site I've created on Tumblr is firerobin Current. It will be updated on a continuous basis with short entries, random thoughts, pics, videos and anything else that pops in my head. The idea is it will be always current to what's going on with me and my thoughts -- which might not always be a good thing. My main blog firerobin will continue to host the longer, actually thought-out posts. It will remain my main blog and will always have the most content.
Here's to tumblelogging!
