Huckabee hype
Huckabee hype
OK, so Huck won Iowa. Big deal, it was Iowa. We all know that he'll be finishing behind both McCain and Romney come Tuesday in New Hampshire. So enough with the hype already. It's early.
My guy from the beginning has been Rudy -- the only Republican that I believe has the ability to win the general election. The one candidate that I come closest to than anyone else on the issues.
I have to say, it blows me away that there are people (mostly evangelicals) who actually think Huckabee can win in November. In a country divided as much as it is, how can getting further conservative socially, and as some might say, closer to an actual theocracy, be the ticket for a Republican win in November? Overturning Roe v. Wade? Any candidate for overturning Roe v. Wade will get destroyed in the general election. Personally, I believe Mike Huckabee is the exact opposite of what this country needs after the divisiveness that has resulted from the Bush administration. Instead of further to the right, we need a candidate who is more centric -- someone who can actually pull votes from the Democratic party, not take away votes from it's own party. Does anyone think for one second that registered Democrats would vote for Huckabee? Oh, but he is fiscally liberal you say. Well, by that lovely non-Republican stance, you just took the votes away from Donald Trump and the other fat cat Republicans who vote purely for fiscal reasons.
And what's with Huck running his campaign purely on the back of Jesus Christ? (As a big advocate for the separation of church and state, this has really bothered me.) OR how he's probably the least experienced out of all the candidates on foreign affairs and, in turn, fighting terrorism. I think New York Times columnist David Brooks said it best, "Will Mr. Huckabee move on and lead this new conservatism? Highly doubtful. The past few weeks have exposed his serious flaws as a presidential candidate. His foreign policy knowledge is minimal. His lapses into amateurishness simply won't fly in a national campaign." Amen.
As for my man Rudy, I have to admit being a bit nervous about him choosing not to campaign in Iowa -- but, like Hillary, Rudy is banking on the upcoming big states, so it should be a good primary season leading up to Super Tuesday.
Oh, and if I see Huckabee playing the guitar one more time ...
