Have you had yours?
Last month, Lori called me at work to tell me she had found a new morning show, Morning Joe, the show that replaced Imus in the Morning on MSNBC. She said it combined her favorite parts of the shows she usually watched in the AM, shows like the Today show and The View. I was intrigued, because about 10 times out of 10, what Lori likes, I like. (With the exception of those awful power ballads of the late 80s and early 90s. Lori loves those.)
So we began TiVo'ing Morning Joe on a regular basis, and of course I found what Lori said to be true and then some. Granted, I only get to watch what my daily morning routine allows me (usually about the first twenty minutes), but I'm never disappointed with the time spent while drinking my actual joe.
The show features former Congressman Joe Scarborough, formerly of Scarborough Country, and Mika Brzezinski as co-host. It always starts off with a pop rock song, usually something from the 70s or 80s, which gives you a clue of how relaxed the show is. Cut to Joe & Mika delivering the day's news with witty banter that seems more Regis & Kelly than talk news, but that's really the forte of the show. Throw in the humorous and Ivy-leaguesque Willie Geist, and you have an intelligent roundtable discussion that's both informative and entertaining.
Over the last month, Morning Joe has really taken off, thanks to everything that has been happening in politics. From being on location in local coffee shops & diners in primary states the morning of voting, to the casualness of having a tall Starbucks in hand as they read the latest headlines from top newspapers across the country, the show is just plain awesome.
Record it this week, especially Tuesday morning. I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
