I should have been raised in the northeast
So my parents hinted this past weekend about ... (gulp) kids. Now, it's always been an underlying theme every now and again - but usually in a joking manner. However, this weekend was a bit more sobering.
"So in another two years?" my mother questioned during our weekly speaker-phone chat. And this direct shot wasn't followed with a chuckle like it might have been in the past. She was serious. Granted, Lori and I have been married five years come next month, but come on. It's like, heaven forbid we don't have children in our twenties.
I'm afraid my parents have been spoiled by the notion that you're supposed to have children early in life. Spending quite a bit of time in Oklahoma, where the average age a woman gets pregnant is like 19. Then, my brother Jason decided to have kids early. (Thanks, bro!) Not to mention my parents having me and my brothers at a fairly young age.
If only I was raised in the northeast, where you are abnormal if you have children before 30. Come on Mom & Dad, just pretend Lori and I live in New York. (Not that they ever read this blog.)
