You kind of need your teeth
If you ever have an orthodontist who tells you they want to extract your bicuspids ... DON'T LET 'EM!
I just found out last week that having my bicuspids removed has been the "root" of every problem I've ever had since I dropped Calculus II back in college.
About a year ago, I started waking up each morning to the sound of my jaw clicking. At first I thought it was some weird fluke, but I can count on my daily jaw clicks every morning as sure as the sun rises. It clicks on average of 4-5 times upon waking and then stops by the time I make it to the bathroom. Evidently, the clicking is caused by my grinding. Yes, grinding -- the grinding I do all night because of my bite being all wrong due to the teeth I'm missing -- all courtesy of Dr. Sperry Zervas. Thanks, Sperry.
Then there is my sleep apnea issue. Because of my bite being wrong, my tongue is forced to the top of my mouth as I sleep, restricting my breathing at night and causing me to snore like a freight train. And possibly causing sleep apnea. The verdict on that is still out, as I'll be going to sleep clinic in the upcoming weeks -- although, Lori swears I go without breathing at night for 30 seconds at a time.
My dentist says that the combination of my grinding and sleep apnea would cause me not to feel rested in the morning. And here I thought everyone felt like crap waking up every morning after eight hours of sleep.
